Academy Membership Explanation Notes

The Academy is aimed at newcomers to the game or players who are seeking to return to the game after an extended absence. In both cases it is hoped that Members of the Academy will have achieved a level of proficiency, etiquette and interest in the game, which will enable them to transfer to Full Membership of the Club in no more than two years.

Membership of the Academy - subject to interview and assessment - runs from the date of joining. Full Members of the Club and other categories pay their subscription on October 1st or pro rata if joining mid–term and thereafter on a calendar basis.

It is not possible for existing Members of the Club to transfer to Membership of the Academy.

The Academy is not intended as an avenue to low cost golf but to encourage new and past players to either take up the sport or return to the game.

Golf lessons are ½ hour individual lessons to be pre-booked with the Professional or his staff. Group lessons may be arranged if required.

On course rounds shall be played at off-peak times as agreed with pro shop staff. All rounds must be logged with the pro shop before play.

On course rounds can only be used once a competent playing standard has been reached. Please discuss this with your teaching professional.

Suitable knowledge of etiquette and rules must be attained by attending at least one compulsory Rules & Etiquette session before course usage is made available.

Practise facilities will be explained to all Members to ensure correct usage.

Academy card discounts are the same as for Full members of the Club; currently 20% discount on food and drink purchases in the clubhouse. Extra golf rounds are available at times deemed suitable by the pro shop.

Members of the Academy may introduce guests subject to time restrictions and assessment by the Club Professional. (Currently you may sign in the same person up to six times in one year) Guests must be competent golfers with a handicap.

Progress will be constantly monitored and when golfing ability reaches the required standard for handicap, Members of the Academy will be invited to attain the required handicap by submitting 3 cards before upgrading to Full membership. BOSGC therefore reserves the right not to renew membership of the Academy.
