Junior Golf Coaching and Progression

Starting Out

Boys and Girls interested in trying golf for the first time should consider attending one of our popular Saturday morning group coaching sessions. These sessions are open to anyone below 18 years of age; golf clubs are provided and for a small fee, youngsters receive an hour of group tuition from one of our PGA teaching professionals. The session normally ends in a putting competition, the prize for which is a choccy bar of the winner’s choice! Parents are encouraged to stay and observe and one of the Club Junior Organisers will normally be in attendance to answer any questions they might have. These sessions can be very popular, particularly in the summer months - please contact the Professional Shop (01425 611210) for more details and availability.

Joining the Club

The next step for those wishing to take their golf to the next level would be to join the club’s Junior Section; this is very affordable with membership fees for a child under 12 years old starting at £49.00 for the year (see full price structure in Join Us/Membership Fees). Club Membership comes with many benefits including the Junior Golf Passport, which is a coaching and learning programme set up by The Golf Foundation. Other Benefits include; Unlimited Golf – Attain a Handicap – Subsidised Coaching – Competition Golf (both internally and against other clubs) - Subsidised Cost of Range Balls.

Play the Course and Gain a Handicap

The real fun is out on the golf course and Junior Golfers at Barton are encouraged to get out there and play as soon as their skills allow. There are 3 loops of 9 holes on which to test their game, all of which have a range of tee positions to suit all abilities. An interim handicap can be assigned to each player to get them out there competing; once they have returned cards for either 3 rounds of 18 holes or 6 rounds of 9 holes a more accurate assessment is made.

Junior competitions are played throughout the year, (please see the ‘Junior Section Competitive Golf’ page), and are open to all Junior Members, (those who only feel ready to play 9 holes are also very welcome).
